Music Shop Lighting

This project considered the options available for replacing halogen spotlights with a low energy alternative.  The halogen spotlights are less efficient as they produce excess heat, which is not ideal in a shop selling pianos and accordions.  We concluded that LED spotlights were most suitable in terms of size, length of life (30,000 hours) and environmental credentials.  Although they are more costly they have twice the longevity of the low energy bulbs and 30 times that of an incandescent bulb. The light is very good quality from LEDs with low heat emission, which is important in this environment.

The other consideration with cost is that the shop would start saving money on electricity bills from the moment they fitted the alternatives.  If the wattage of the LED spotlights is compared with the current spotlights there is a saving, e.g. 1.8w LED is equivalent to 10w, i.e. 18% of the running costs.
