A local consultancy wanted office space outside of the main house and ideally in their garden, rather than renting premises. The client wanted an office that was sustainable, but it also had to meet other needs in relation to comfort and functionality for work.
Hawthorn Environmental Services Ltd researched the various options available and used a Life Cycle Assessment approach to determine the sustainability of each option. Materials were important to sustainability, not just what they were but how they were sourced. Insulation was given additional weighting as this would be important to the comfort and running costs. The various factors were scored and then the products banded according to their sustainability, giving the client the final choice of product. This was an office designed and built by Energy Space. I followed the build process as it progressed and was impressed with the attention to detail.
