Tandoori Restaurant

Hawthorn Environmental Services Ltd completed a 10-part environmental assessment of the Shipa Tandoori Restaurant in Gillingham.  This was based on a pre-survey questionnaire followed by a walk-through survey during business hours.

We identified a number of measures that cost nothing to implement but would lead to reductions in energy and water bills, as well as improvement in waste management and transport.  These were mainly behavioural changes needing the co-operation of staff, but also involved monitoring utility bills.  The adoption of these changes alone would make a significant difference and justify bringing in Hawthorn Environmental Services Ltd to help implement them.

We also identified some inexpensive measures that would improve insulation and energy efficiency, reduce water usage and the restaurant’s environmental footprint.  These measures would pay for themselves within a short period of time and then lead to savings in running costs.

Over the longer term items of equipment will need replacing and other changes will be made, such as interior decoration.  Hawthorn Environmental Services Ltd advised on how these changes could be made so that their environmental impact was less and, in some cases, would result in reduced running costs.  As well as further improvements in energy efficiency, these would lead to major savings in water usage, as well as an improved environment in terms of lighting and comfort within the restaurant.
