Here are the recent domestic projects that we have worked on.
Cavity Wall InsulationIf you have a house with cavity walls it can make a real difference to have cavity wall insulation installed. Cavity wall insulation was installed in our own house some years ago, but now we are seeing most of our neighbours installing it too.
Improving Window InsulationWhen thinking about insulation most people consider the loft and cavity walls, particularly as there may be grants available for doing this. It is very important to do this and it pays for itself quickly by reducing your energy bills, but it does not stop there.
Insulating Your RoofMost of us have some insulation in our lofts, but how many of us check whether this is to current standards, that it is still covering properly and in good condition?
Maintain Good Ventilation Without Losing HeatOlder homes are often characterised by draughtiness, with fireplaces open to the chimney and draughts around windows that allow cold air in. The Building Regulations have addressed this over the years and modern homes are designed to be more tightly sealed, reducing the air flow into and out of the building, except when intended by opening windows.
Natural floorcoverings and paintsThe ground floor living area of our house had tatty wallpaper and the carpet was past its best. We decided that we wanted to use natural materials as these would not off-gas and could contribute to improved air quality.
Producing Hot Water Using The Power Of The SunWe wanted to reduce our gas consumption, the heating is not on during the warmer months but the boiler was still active producing hot water. When we had our new efficient gas condensing boiler installed we also replaced our hot water tank with one that was suitable for solar panels.
Reducing Water Use In The HomeWe wanted to ensure we did not waste water but did not want to be restricted only to showers as it can be nice to have a long soak in the bath. However, baths can be the next biggest user of water in the home after toilet flushing.
Your New Kitchen Can Be Trendy And Eco-FriendlyKitchens are always being re-vamped nowadays, out with the old and in with something that looks good and is functional. Formica worktops are a thing of the past; we now have beautiful surfaces such as granite and wood. But do you think about where the granite or wood has come from? How sustainable are these worktops?
